April Vokey
April Vokey grew up chasing salmon and steelhead along the rivers of coastal British Columbia—her baitcaster in one hand and a fresh driver’s license in the other.
In her late teens, April found fly fishing and quietly reorganized her entire future around it. She guided for sturgeon, salmon, and steelhead before founding Fly Gal Ventures in 2007 at age 24. Since then, fly fishing has carried April around the world, from remote steelhead rivers to saltwater flats.
Today, she’s the founder of Anchored Outdoors, a global online membership built from the roots of the Anchored Podcast. April considers Anchored Outdoors the most meaningful thing she’s created—a place where anglers sharpen their skills, think critically, and connect.
Things About April
Worst fishing snack: That processed powdered cheddar cheese popcorn. All the powder builds up on your fingers and gets stuck on everything: fingers, reels, fly lines. Immediate regret.
Guilty pleasure fly: A black and blue rabbit egg sucking leech. Bonus points if it’s tied by Catherine Laflamme.
Most overrated fish: Don’t get mad… Montana browns.
Most underrated fish: Muskegon Great Lakes steelhead. Tough, chrome, and wildly underappreciated.
