Austin Trayser

Nickname: Stone (though he won’t admit it)

Hometown: Livingston, Montana

Guides in: Southwest Montana; Patagonia, Chile

Austin’s boundless appetite for adventure has taken him all over the world—from the Seychelles to the Amazon—toting fly rods and camera gear. But he’s not your standard globetrotting angler serially sampling fisheries and moving on. Austin develops intimate relationships with rivers and lakes, especially the Yellowstone River, which flows though his hometown of Livingston, Montana. In addition to working as a fishing guide in Montana and Chile, Austin is a photographer, filmmaker, and cinematographer. His creative reservoir runs deep, and as a guide, angler, and artist, he always seems dialed into something that everyone else misses. Whether it’s knowing exactly when and where the fish will be rising on a given day, or framing a photo so that it captures the emotional experience of a scene instead of just the action, Austin picks up details that most people miss. He’s quick with a joke, a pleasure to hang out with, and always game to go fishing.
