Jack Britts
Jack Britts grew up in North Carolina with a fly rod in one hand and a basketball in the other. He walked away from offers to play college ball in favor of chasing fish, attending Montana State University and spending summers working at fishing lodges in Alaska—washing dishes, scrubbing toilets, and (eventually) guiding. Jack discovered Skwala gear when he won a pair of RS waders at a Fly Fishing Film Tour screening in Bozeman. He took them up to Alaska that summer, fell in love with them, and decided he wanted to work with us after he graduated. Jack is now part of our dedicated customer service team. He doesn’t just know the products; he knows how they actually perform.
Things About Jack
Why Skwala? "First, the people. You won’t find a better group of people making fly gear on the planet. Second, the gear itself. After a season of guiding in Alaska with my RS kit, I knew they were on a different level."
Guilty pleasure fly: "A bead . . . Extremely guilty."
What aspect of your fishing needs work? "My dry fly fishing. Being a streamer nut for a number of years now has significantly affected my will and ability to throw anything under a size 10."
Worst fishing snack: "Gas station burritos. Good on the way in (sometimes) and bad on the way out (always)."
Most overrated fish: "Pike. The eat is cool and all but after about 2 seconds, a foul hooked whitefish fights harder."
Most underrated fish: "Carp. Catching Carp in Montana is as close as you can get out West to chasing redfish in the marsh back home. The fight is killer and they are always a good time."
More Things About Jack
Favorite knot and why: "Improved Homer Rhodes. Sounds fancy but super simple and will never let you down."
If you could fish with one person, living or dead, it would be… "My Granddad. He passed away before I was born, but even though he was a Rooster Tail aficionado, I think he would get a real kick out of chasing fish on a fly."
What's the best part about fly fishing? "The people you meet along the way. I have met the majority of the people that mean the most to me though fly fishing. I’m forever grateful for all these folks and the ones I have yet to meet."
