Ryan Cantrell
Ryan Cantrell grew up fishing the Eagle and Blue Rivers in Colorado with his dad and grandpa. Work temporarily pulled him from his beloved Mountain West for a few years, but his goal was always to return. His knowledge, wisdom, and technical expertise have proven indispensable to leading companies in fishing and hunting apparel for the past nine years. Ryan’s competence is only rivaled by his dry wit and judicious guidance, which is why Ryan was the first person Kevin brought on to help build Skwala.

Why Skwala? "You don't get the chance to build a company and a brand from the ground up very often. When I first met with Kevin and saw the prototypes, I knew we had something here. Working with a small team of industry experts, no two days are the same, and it’s never dull. The work we do here is always exciting and rewarding."
Guilty pleasure fly: "Pat’s Rubberlegs."
What aspect of your fishing needs work? "Most all of it could stand to improve. I've been doing more saltwater fishing over the past few years, and my sight casting has plenty of room for improvement. Luckily, it’s very addictive."
Worst fishing snack: "Beef Jerky."
Most overrated fish: "No such thing."

Favorite knot and why: "My friends might say it’s the wind knot, but my favorite is the non-slip mono loop—an easy to tie, effective loop knot for streamers and bait patterns."
If you could fish with one person, living or dead, it would be… "My dad."
What's the best part about flyfishing? It's one of the few sports that you can do alone or with friends and is a great time either way.
